Gender role identity and gender intensification: Agency and communion in adolescents’ spontaneous self-descriptions

In line with gender stereotypes, girls are expected to take on communal roles and boys agentic roles. Based intensification theory, the present cross-sectional study investigated girls’ boys’ role identity corresponding age differences across adolescence using spontaneous self-description method. total, 3423 adolescents aged between 11 15 years were asked describe themselves three attributes later coded in terms of agency communion. ANOVA results showed but small communion, no evidence for intensification. Moreover, significant found only 17% named attributes. The thus indicate greater similarities than adolescents’ self-descriptions.
